Lady Gaga Joins Lisa Kudrow for Duet of “Smelly Cat” on Friends: The Reunion

On Thursday, May 27th, Friends: The Reunion arrived on HBO Max. The unscripted special brought the show’s cast members back together where they reminisce about their time on Friends. James Corden hosted the reunion which also included appearances by celebrities who are fans of the show.

One of the segments of the special brought Lisa Kudrow, who played Phoebe Buffay, to a couch in Central Perk with a guitar, to play the fan-favorite song “Smelly Cat” from the tv show. Before she started performing, Kudrow said, “Yeah, don’t get too excited. I haven’t done this in a long time. I should be Phoebe for this. OK!”

About a minute into the song, Lady Gaga appeared at the door of the cafe with a guitar in hand. Gaga said, “You need some help? I love ‘Smelly Cat’! It’s one of my favorite songs. You mind if I take ‘Smelly Cat’ for a spin?”

Then Kudrow and Gaga went on to finish the song together. A choir also appeared towards the end of the song to assist the two with performing the song. When the song ended, Kudrow jokingly added “I still think it’s better when it’s just me.”

Gaga also said thank you to Kudrow and her character Phoebe, saying “Thank you so much for being the person for all of us on Friends that was the, I don’t think if this is the right way to say it, but the different one or the one that was really herself.”
