On Tuesday, March 9th, Doja Cat released a music video for her song “Streets.” The viral single “Streets” is off of Doja Cat’s 2019 album Hot Pink. The horror-fantasy music video was directed by Christian Breslauer, who also co-produced the video with Mike Breslauer.
The music video pays homage to the TikTok silhouette challenge, which was built around the 25-year-old artist’s song, with a mannequin inside a store display transforming into Doja. A taxi driver is driving by the store display when he sees and is distracted by this transformation.
The taxi driver is played by actor Kofi Siriboe, from Queen Sugar, and Girls Trip. Doja seduces the taxi driver with dancing, and eventually captures him in a spider web. At the end of the video, we realize that the whole scene was a figment of the taxi driver’s imagination.
This year, Doja Cat is nominated for three Grammy Awards. Best New Artist, Best Pop Solo Performance for “Say So,” and Record of the Year for “Say So” are the Grammy Awards she is nominated for. In addition to her nominations, Doja Cat will also be performing at this year’s Grammy Awards ceremony on Sunday, March 14th.
