Tracy Chapman Gives Rare Performance of “Talkin’ ‘Bout a Revolution” on Late Night with Seth Meyers

On Monday, November 2nd, Tracy Chapman made a rare appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers to perform her classic single “Talkin’ ‘Bout a Revolution” ahead of the presidential election day on November 3rd.

The folk-singer sang “Don’t you know/ Talkin’ bout a revolution/ It sounds like a whisper/ And finally the tables are starting to turn/ Talkin’ bout a revolution/ It’s finally the tables are starting to turn/ Talkin’ bout a revolution, go vote/ Talkin’ bout a revolution, go vote,” in the performance. The singer changed the lyrics slightly from “oh, no” to “go vote” to encourage the viewers to vote.

As Chapman left the stage, a small card with the word “vote” was revealed where she was standing. Chapman made a statement about the performance and the importance of voting, saying “This is the most important election of our lifetime. It is imperative that everyone vote to restore our democracy.”

This performance comes as the first in five years for Tracy Chapman. She last appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman, during the final season in 2015.

The song “Talkin’ ‘Bout a Revolution” was featured on Tracy Chapman’s self-titled debut album released in 1988. The song was the second single off of the album after “Fast Car,” which peaked at No. 75 on the Billboard Hot 100.
