The film was directed by Taylor Swift and was filmed at Long Pond Studios in Hudson Valley, NY which is home to the National and Aaron Dessner. Dessner was a key collaborator with Swift on her most recent album, Folklore.
The film itself features Swift, Dessner, and Jack Antonoff, who co-produced the album. The three artists perform each track off of Folklore and tell stories and meanings behind the songs throughout the film. There is also a special appearance by Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, who performs a duet with Swift on “Exile.”
In the Folklore trailer, Swift says, “It’s an album that allows you to feel your feelings, and it’s a product of isolation.” She continues in a conversation with Dessner saying, “This could’ve been a time where I absolutely lost my mind, and instead, I think this album was a real flotation device for both of us.”
