New Music Friday: Drake, Bruno Mars, Anderson .Paak, Ashe, Finneas, Charli XCX, YG, The 1975, Kings of Leon, Blu DeTiger

This week we have quite a few new albums and single releases from bands and artists in the hip hop, pop, indie, and rock genres, including 3 new songs from Drake, an Ashe and Finneas duet, a release by Charli XCX, No Rome, and The 1975 supergroup. There’s also a new Kings of Leon album, Japanese Breakfast single, Zara Larsson’s long-awaited album, and the highly anticipated new band Silk Sonic, Bruno Mars & Anderson .Paak, released their first single

Drake finally gave us some new music with Scary Hours 2. While we wait on his album Certified Lover Boy he delivered 3 new songs including features from Rick Ross & Lil Baby. The last time Drake dropped Scary Hours, we got one of his biggest hits in “God’s Plan”, this time around he dropped a video for the single “What’s Next” which is sure to take over the airwaves while we wait on his album.

Ashe and Finneas released a duet “Till Forever Falls Apart” on Tuesday. The ballad includes soft piano and guitar throughout and was accompanied by a music video, which shows Ashe and Finneas dancing on a hillside. Ashe talked about the new song saying “This song, while sounding like the most romantic song I’ve ever written, is about acceptance as well.” Finneas talked about making music with Ashe saying “Making music with her has always been an extension of our friendship and I could not love this song more.”

Silk Sonic finally released their first single. The new band is led by Bruno Mars & Anderson .Paak and will feature Bootsy Collins. The lead single “Leave The Door Open” showcases the two superstar singers going back and forth over a funky instrumental that brings you back to the golden days of soul & funk. Needless to say, we can’t wait to get more from Silk Sonic.

Yesterday, the supergroup with Charli XCX, No Rome, and The 1975 released the song “Spinning.” The song has been teased for quite some time, and has been highly anticipated. Finally though, on Wednesday, the supergroup members posted on their social media about the song’s release the next day, along with a graphic of animated group members. Kings of Leon release their album When You See Yourself today. With this album Kings of Leon will become the first band to release an album in the form of NFT (non-fungible token), a type of cryptocurrency. When You See Yourself includes singles “The Bandit” and “100,000 People.” The album was recorded at the band’s Nashville base and was produced by Markus Dravs who has also produced for Arcade Fire and Florence and the Machine. 

4Hunnid came out with a label compilation, spearheaded by YG the album features YG, Day Sulan, D3, & Tay2X. The project includes 7 new songs from the collective and a feature from DDG. Japanese Breakfast released a new single, “Be Sweet” which will be included on their upcoming album, Jubilee, to be released on June 4th. Swedish pop artist, Zara Larsson releases her new album, Poster Girl today. This will be the 23-year-old artist’s third album, and includes previously released singles “Love Me Land,” “Wow,” and “Talk About Love” featuring Young Thug. Poster Girl has been years in the making, and is fun, and exciting, with a lot of lyrics about love. 

On Wednesday, girl in red released a new song, “Serotonin.” The new song is to be included on the Norwegian indie-pop artist, Marie Ulven’s project girl in red’s, debut album which will be released in April. Blu DeTiger, the Tik Tok star turned pop princess, released her first EP How Did We Get Here?, with 7 new songs including her singles “Figure It Out” & “Vintage”.
