Kanye, Nas, The Weeknd & Possibly Drake All Dropping This Friday!

This Friday is looking to be one of the biggest days for new releases in recent memory. From Kanye’s Donda, a new Nas album, a single from The Weeknd & even possibly Drake’s long-awaited CLB. We got the inside scoop on what to expect this weekend.

Nas unveils the official tracklist for ‘King’s Disease II’, due out Friday (8/6). 

On Tuesday (August 3), Grammy-winning hip-hop artist Nas revealed on his Instagram the tracklist for his upcoming album. The 15-track album will serve as a sequel to his previous project ‘King’s Disease’ and includes features from rap legends Eminem, Lauryn Hill, and EPMD. The album also includes songs with A Boogie Wit da Hoodie and YG, Hit-Boy, Charlie Wilson, as well as Blxst. God’s son is coming off his very first Grammy for best rap album, and we’re excited to hear what he has in store for its sequel. 

Kanye’s latest album, ‘Donda’, is also scheduled for Friday- pending further delays. 

On Saturday (July 31), Ye took to Instagram to confirm a new release date for his long-awaited album ‘Donda’. The post features a loading sign with “DONDA 08.05.2021” at the bottom and no caption. Additionally, the Yeezy designer announced that his team is hosting yet another listening event, scheduled for Friday in Atlanta. After failing to release the album on 7/23 as previously announced, fans have been left guessing when the album will drop. 

There has been a lot of buzz around the project, with social media and reporters going crazy over the status of the album. Many reports say West has been living out of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium the past few weeks, making final touches to the project before the release. Recently, ex-T.I. producer DJ Toomp sat down with B High ATL and gave a brutally honest critique of the album so far, saying “I hope the album doesn’t sound like this”. There’s a lot of pressure on Kanye to drop this Friday- will he do it?

Drake confirms his newest project, “Certified Lover Boy” is finished and “on the way”.

On Friday night (July 30), Drake confirmed on the latest episode of Sound 42’s Fri Yiy Friday Show that his upcoming album is officially done. In the interview, the Toronto based rapper sent subliminal shots to “anyone in the way”. He stated “And for the rest of you heathens, I wanna tell you, ’cause I know you’re listening, ’cause you’re always free, don’t trouble people’s kids, don’t bother people’s soul., know what I’m sayin’? OVO, we aim for that head. We don’t aim to please. You see it. Certified Lover Boy on the way. And that’s for anyone in the way.” Drizzy has yet to reveal the official release date of CLB, but it very well could be this Friday.

The Weeknd announces that his new single “Take My Breath” will be released this Friday.

On Monday (August 2), The Weeknd teased a minute-long snippet on Twitter of an upcoming track titled “Take My Breath”. The singer tweeted “8.6.21 new single,” implying the song will drop this Friday. It was featured in an ad for Team USA Women’s Track & Field team for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, with track stars Sydney McLaughlin, Dalilah Muhammad, Athing Mu, and Gabby Thomas in the video.
