On Tuesday, March 9th, Doja Cat released a music video for her song “Streets.” The viral single “Streets” is off of Doja Cat’s 2019 album Hot Pink. The horror-fantasy music video was directed by Christian Breslauer, who also co-produced the video with Mike Breslauer.
The music video pays homage to the TikTok silhouette challenge, which was built around the 25-year-old artist’s song, with a mannequin inside a store display transforming into Doja. A taxi driver is driving by the store display when he sees and is distracted by this transformation.
The taxi driver is played by actor Kofi Siriboe, from Queen Sugar, and Girls Trip. Doja seduces the taxi driver with dancing, and eventually captures him in a spider web. At the end of the video, we realize that the whole scene was a figment of the taxi driver’s imagination.
This year, Doja Cat is nominated for three Grammy Awards. Best New Artist, Best Pop Solo Performance for “Say So,” and Record of the Year for “Say So” are the Grammy Awards she is nominated for. In addition to her nominations, Doja Cat will also be performing at this year’s Grammy Awards ceremony on Sunday, March 14th.
On Monday, March 8th, Miley Cyrus released a music video for her song “Angels Like You.” The video was shot at Cyrus’ performance during the pregame for Super Bowl LV in Tampa, Florida, a month ago. The video was directed by Cyrus, and Alana O’Herlihy.
The audience for this performance was fully vaccinated and masked healthcare workers. Miley Cyrus’ performance for this event was one of the first with this size of audience since the COVID-19 pandemic started early last year. Miley is seen wearing a bedazzled #25 football jersey in black and pink while performing in the video.
At the end of the video, a note written by Cyrus appears saying “On February 7th 2021 nearly a year after the world shut down because of COVID-19, this video was shot at the first concert of its size since the pandemic changed our lives. The audience here is fully vaccinated health care workers who have been fearlessly and tirelessly fighting COVID-19.
We all look forward to being together again and this can happen sooner than we may have thought with vaccines becoming more available. Each of us can help stop the pandemic by being vaccinated. Together we can make the experience of live music a reality again. Forever yours – Miley.”

In Power Book II, music supervisor Derryk “Big Tank” Thornton found one of the most rewarding and challenging projects of his career — a prominent series calling for big music, in a diversity of styles.
Created by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Power Book II: Ghost premiered a few days after the Power finale, focusing on Tariq navigating his new life, shadowing and indirectly taking up the legacy of his father, and pounding pressure to save his mother.
A prolific music supervisor, Derryk “ Big Tank” Thornton found the appeal of Power Book II to be obvious, painting the vision of the show through music, and what an eclectic music selection it has been for season 1.
Having worked on the early seasons of The Chi as the music supervisor with interesting music choices, he had to even dig deeper for Power Book II, carrying on the torch of great music selections. When he signed onto Power Book II, Thornton’s first step was to put together a massive playlist, comprising hours of music.
For a music supervisor, many of the selections from a show stems from a collaborative effort with the director team. The initial stages involved temping songs to define the scope of the show musically, then replacing them later.
Looking back on Season 1, the music supervisor has a few favorite moments, where he feels his musical choices aligned perfectly with both the aesthetic and the narrative intent of a scene. “In 101, one of my favorite placements is the Jacob Bank’s Song, “Monster”. The track was played as Tasha is in jail, and as Cane is shooting and killing the guy he got into an argument with at the previous night’s party.
There’s just such perfect emergence of music to picture there, as the song supported the scene so well.
For Thornton, he enjoys the entire musical journey, end to end from music temping to spotting and finally seeing it all come to life when watching the scenes.
“Music plays an integral part in painting a picture and driving the emotional engine of a scene. I’m glad to be able to do just that on these iconic shows”.
On Tuesday, March 2nd, Japanese Breakfast released a new single “Be Sweet” which is to be included on their new album Jubilee. Jubilee is the alternative rock band’s third album and is to be released on June 4th via Dead Oceans.
Along with the release of the track, “Be Sweet” was accompanied by a music video that features, Michelle Zauner, Japanese Breakfast’s lead singer, and Marisa Dabice, lead singer of Mannequin Pussy, as FBI agents.
The new single is quite upbeat which is different than some of Japanese Breakfast’s other music. Zauner talked about the upcoming album and new single saying, “After spending the last five years writing about grief, I wanted our follow-up to be about joy. For me, a third record should feel bombastic and so I wanted to pull out all the stops for this one. I wrote ‘Be Sweet’ with Jack Tatum from Wild Nothing a few years ago. I’ve been holding onto it for so long and am so excited to finally put it out there.”
Jubilee is now available for preorder on vinyl, CD, and cassette tape on Japanese Breakfast’s website here.
On Friday, February 26th, Justin Bieber announced he will be releasing a new album Justice in just a few weeks on March 19th. This will be the iconic artist’s sixth album and will include previously released tracks “Anyone,” “Lonely,” and “Holy” which he collaborated with Chance The Rapper on.
Also included with the announcement, was the album’s cover. It includes a picture of sitting Bieber with a hand on his face. In the background is a tunnel and the album’s name, Justice is front and center in large, block, all caps text. Overall the album cover has colors of green and blue.
When announcing the new album on his Instagram, Bieber said, “JUSTICE the album March 19th. In a time when there’s so much wrong with this broken planet, we all crave healing and justice for humanity. In creating this album my goal is to make music that will provide comfort, to make songs that people can relate to and connect to so they feel less alone. Suffering, injustice, and pain can leave people feeling helpless. Music is a great way of reminding each other that we aren’t alone.
Music can be a way to relate to one another and connect with one another. I know that I cannot simply solve injustice by making music but I do know that if we all do our part by using our gifts to serve this planet and each other that we are that much closer to being united. This is me doing a small part. My part. I want to continue the conversation of what justice looks like so we can continue to heal.”
Bieber tweeted earlier today that we can expect his first single off Justice this Friday titled “Hold On”.
On Friday, February 26th, Taylor Swift announced on her social media that her Lover Fest shows would be canceled. This set of 12 shows across the world was originally announced in the fall of 2019 in support of Swift’s album Lover. Then in the spring of 2020, Swift postponed the shows she could, as others were canceled amongst COVID-19 uncertainties.
In the statement regarding the cancellations, she said “I love coming on here to tell you good news, or to share a new project with you. It’s not my favorite thing in the world to have to tell you news I’m sad about. I’m so sorry, but I cannot reschedule the shows that we’ve postponed. Although refunds have been available since we first postponed the Lover Fest shows, many of you hung onto your tickets and I too hung onto the idea that we could reschedule.”
She continued, “This is an unprecedented pandemic that has changed everyone’s plans and no one knows what the touring landscape is going to look like in the near future. I’m so disappointed that I won’t be able to see you in person as soon as I wanted to. I miss you terribly and can’t wait til we can all safely be at shows together again.”

Previously released tracks, “Hardline,” “Faith Healer,” and “Favor” will be included on the album.
Today, NOFX released their fourteenth album Single Album. The punk rock band had originally wanted the album to be a double album.
