New Radio Station: Rhythm & Praise Radio

New Radio Station: Rhythm & Praise Radio
R&P Radio will kick off with a music-only format, playing the genre’s hitmakers, artists including Kierra Sheard, Kirk Franklin, Erica Campbell, Jonathan McReynolds, Koryn Hawthorne, Jor’Dan Armstrong, and Uncle Reece.
On August 10, LA’s #1 Home for Rhythm & Praise Gospel Soul Music will begin rolling out 7 shows hosted by gospel on-air personalities. “We joined forces with Those Baxters and are curating a radio station that’s different from contemporary gospel,” Emcee N.I.C.E. says. “This is out of the box R&B gospel.” Dubbed R&P, Gospel’s R&B, the station will break the mold of traditional and contemporary gospel.
“You’re so used to all of the traditional stations being into quartets and choirs and the traditional gospel,” Emcee N.I.C.E. says. “Here, you’ll be able to hear a Jor’Dan Armstrong do a ‘90s R&B inspired song for God. That’s essentially what’s going on in a lot of these records coming out.”
Also known as Christian R&B, Rhythm & Praise combines Christian-themed lyrics with common music characteristics
of rhythm and blues and has achieved more than 10 million records sold, 100 million streams, 20 GRAMMYS, 25
Dove Awards and 50 Stellar Awards. Grayson says R&P Radio will be an excellent complement to their successful Christian hip hop station GH3 Radio.
“We continue to elevate the CHH market and now we’re going to expand the R&P space,” she says, “and I think that
it’s awesome to give all these young and up and coming gospel artists an opportunity and platform to showcase their God-given talent not to mention, the fans will gain a newfound reason to check for Gospel and the word of God
through music they can relate to.”
Those Baxters hosts Kala “Ms. Kala” Moses Baxter and Juan “Brutha Craze” Baxter are excited to partner with
Emcee N.I.C.E. and Grayson to launch R&P Radio. “It is a dream come true to team up with the two of them and help
create, program, and run a radio station that focuses on the music we love, R&P Gospel’s R&B!” they said. “We’re so
thankful that God placed us on the hearts of these VISIONARIES.
Their success with God’s House of Hip Hop is a testament to stepping out on faith and the magnificent work that God can do.” GH3 Radio which boasts 24/7 programming of Christian hip hop (CHH), Latin CHH, and Gospel hip hop music has been nominated for the 2020 Stellar Awards Internet Station of the Year and 11 The Spin Awards.
Those Baxters have over 16 years of experience in the gospel music radio industry as radio personalities, producers, and music programmers. Kala “Ms. Kala” Moses Baxter worked on-air for Radio One’s Philadelphia Praise Philly for 7 years and Juan “Brother Craze” Baxter worked on-air for Stellar Awards-winning 1300 WIMG, programming and co-hosting their first Christian hip hop radio show. God called them to step out on faith with their own radio show sharing “that incredible new sound of god’s music” by creating their own syndicated radio shows. Those Baxters’ first radio show debuted in 2014 on Look Up Radio Radio and grew in syndication with Rejoice Musical Soulfood Network. You can hear Those Baxters across the country on over 30 stations with three syndicated radio shows. They are proud to be one of the flagship radio shows on multiple award-winning GH3: God’s House of Hip Hop with their show “Street Psalms.”
Aulsondro “Novelist” Hamilton also known as Emcee N.I.C.E., a multi-platinum producer and Billboard chart-topping Christian hip hop recording artist, is the curator of the award-winning station God’s House of Hip Hop Radio powered by Dash Radio. In 2 years, Emcee N.I.C.E. and business partner Chantal Grayson took an emerging genre in CHH, Latin CHH, and Gospel Hip Hop and created mainstay in radio, becoming the first station on the Dash Radio platform to win a major award for radio along with being the first hip hop faith-based hip hop station to win the coveted Stellar Award, Gospel’s most prestigious award. The station would also go on to win 5 The Spin Awards, Best New Station, Best Internet Radio Station, Best Radio Station Two or More Hosts and Emcee N.I.C.E. also won Internet Radio Host of the Year. N.I.C.E. is also one of two executive producers for the God’s House of Hip Hop 20/20 Summer Fest, a faith-based hip hop music festival held in Los Angeles.
Chantal Grayson aka Chanie G. is the co-founder of God’s House of Hip Hop (GH3 Radio). She is instrumental in
the station’s ascension to prominence – winning the 34th annual Stellar Award in 2019. She is the President of Gypsy
City Music and co-owner of GH3’s 20/20 Summer Fest.

SAINt JHN “Roses” Remix Goes #1, 4 Years After Initial Release

SAINt JHN’s “Roses” Imanbek Remix went #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 a few weeks ago but did you know the original version of “Roses” was released in 2016?

Even more interesting is that he released a remix of “Roses” in May 2020 with a guest feature from Future. Even with Future’s backing, the single didn’t truly reach its peak until Imanbek’s remix of the single blew up on Triller & Tik Tok.

This isn’t the first time an artist had a song blow up years after its initial release. Sheck Wes’ “Mo Bamba” was released in June of 2017 but the record didn’t blow up until Mid-2018.

What makes this case study very intriguing is Imanbek. Imanbek is a 19 year old producer from Kazakhstan. Yes, you read that correctly Kazakhstan, the country made popular in the movie Borat.

Imanbek is from a village in Kazakhstan called Aksu, he started playing the guitar at the age of 8. He tried to reach out to SAINt JHN via Instagram DM but wasn’t successful. He went on to produce and release the remix which quickly began dominating the charts across Europe.

Months later the remix took the single to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. There’s a bunch of lessons to be learned from this. For starters, never give up on a song or project. Just because it didn’t blow up on the initial release it doesn’t mean that you can’t re-release the song or remix it and dominate the charts with the same song.

Another great point is that sometimes it just takes the right person to recreate your work. Future is one of the most successful artists of our generation but even his feature on the initial remix of “Roses” didn’t take the record to #1.

It was a 19 year old producer, Imanek, who had the perfect production to match SAINt JHN’s sped-up vocals that gave the world the remix we didn’t know we wanted.

Moral of the story, don’t ever give up on yourself or your work. Keep pushing, keep releasing, and when the timing is right you’re time will come.

Congrats to SAINt JHN aka Ghetto Lenny and Imanbek on taking “Roses” to the #1 spot!

We interviewed SAINt JHN back in January before releasing the Future remix of “Roses” and he got to know a big group of fans who came to his meet & greet. Rewatch the interview below.

Pop Smoke’s debut album ‘Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon’ Debuts at No. 1

First and foremost, rest in peace Pop Smoke.

This week his dreams came true as his debut album “Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon” went #1 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart.

Executive produced by 50 Cent the posthumous Pop Smoke album features Roddy Ricch, Quavo, Lil Baby, DaBaby, Swae Lee, Future, Tyga, Karol G, Lil Tjay & King Combs. Album production was handled by an assortment of producers including Mustard, 808Melo, Tyy Beats, & others.

The album consists of 19 new songs including a remake of 50 cent’s “Many Men” on “Got It On Me”. The comparisons between 50 & Pop stem from their similarities in look and sound. 50 once stated that he & Pop are the same person from two different generations and that the only difference is that 50 is an example of “Getting Rich” while Pop sadly “Die(d) Trying”.

50 cent was shot 9 times on his rise to the top but was lucky enough to live. This explains his involvement in the project as he saw a younger version of himself in Pop Smoke.

50 Cent along with Pop’s manager Steven Victor took on the responsibility of finishing Pop’s debut album and its safe to say the duo completed the mission. Very few rappers go #1 on their debut and Pop is officially on that shortlist of rappers.

The album release came with some controversy as a few weeks ago they released the original artwork from Virgil Abloh. The internet was very disappointed with the lazy album art and 50 Cent made it a point to call upon Virgil to redo the cover.

One of Pop Smoke’s wishes for his debut was to have the Off-White designer do the cover art. The final product was much cleaner and well received by the community.

Rest in Peace Pop Smoke, your name won’t be forgotten!

Brooklyn stand up! Woo!

RIP Pop.

Roddy Ricch Spices Up Tiny Desk Concert

Roddy Ricch added his own flavor to NPR’s Tiny Desk (Home) Concerts featuring Ty Dolla $ign, 1500 or Nothin, & West Coast Customs.

The Atlantic Records artist recorded his Tiny Desk set at the famed auto garage, alongside Ty Dolla $ign for a special performance backed by Los Angeles hitmakers 1500 Or Nothin.

The multi-platinum selling rapper staged his concert at West Coast Customs due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has forced NPR’s series to shift to remote editions.

While other artists have performed from their couches and home studios, Roddy opted to pull off something more unique.

This will surely start a trend as NPR isn’t slowing down on their Tiny Desk series and now every artist after Roddy is going to have to step it up.

Throughout the pandemic we have seen players in the music industry think outside “the box”, no pun intended, ah ha ha ha. From Swizz Beats & Timbaland battling it out over who has more hits and the creation of VerzuzTV, to Guapdad4000 hosting RonaRaps with rappers like Chance The Rapper, Isaiah Rashaad, & Chris Brown, we’ve seen innovation in our industry like never before.

Roddy Ricch is just another example of an artist thinking outside of the box during this pandemic. One of the bright sides of this pandemic is that we’re being forced to connect to our fans in different ways & it will be interesting to see what new ideas from the pandemic stand the test of time and shift the culture even after the world goes back to normal.

To hear more from Roddy Ricch check out Dash Hip Hop X!

Babyy Chris 2K drops “No Harm” with Kevin Gates

Last week, Babyy Chris 2K dropped the perfect summer vibe No Harm, featuring Kevin Gates.

With production from Mike Mixer (Gunna, T.I., Jacquees) and Cicero (Kodak Black, Lil Baby, Polo G), this single that has been making its rounds through Atlanta’s club circuit since the city’s reopening.

Making his major-label debut on Reckless Republic/Island Records, the MC has been working toward this for a while. “No Harm” is about the work he’s had to put in and a day in the life of a Rockstar.  This debut doesn’t come solo, he receives the ultimate co-sign from Kevin Gates. Working with the platinum award-winning rapper and southern legend— allowed Babyy Chris 2k to cross this off his bucket list. This is only the beginning for the promising ATLien.

He brings a new sound with a memorable look, leaving you wanting more.   A self-proclaimed fashion pioneer in Atlanta, Babyy Chris 2K birthed a lot of the “drip” seen around the city.  Prior to mainstream acceptance of skinny jeans, you couldn’t really find them for men, he said; so, he resorted to shopping in the women’s section of True Religion for his jeans. Chris explains it’s deeper than labels, it’s a true taste for fashion.

It takes undeniable versatility to break through and win over fans in this current music climate. Born and raised in the Bankhead neighborhood of Atlanta, Christopher “Babyy Chris 2K” Miller knew that he wanted to be a star since the age of 10. Growing up on the sounds of Michael Jackson, Lil Wayne, Jimi Hendrix, and Mick Jagger, just to name a few, have molded the sound that you are hearing through his music.

Be on the lookout for Babyy Chris 2K this year as he’s poised to take over the charts & become a household name all around the world.

50 Cent Calls Out Steven Victor & Virgil Abloh Over Pop Smoke Album Cover Dilemma

First and foremost rest in peace Bashar “Pop Smoke” Jackson.

In light of his murder back in late February, 50 Cent & Steven Victor vowed to complete his upcoming album, Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon.

50 Cent started by enlisting the likes of Drake, Roddy Ricch & more. Well, now the album has some controversy around it when 50 Cent posted the album art designed by Virgil Abloh.

The Hip Hop community wasted no time calling out 50 Cent & Virgil Abloh for the underwhelming cover art. It’s important to note that Pop Smoke had chosen Virgil Abloh for his next cover art but still the people were outraged by the simplicity of the cover.

50 Cent tweeted that he had previously told Pop’s manager, Steven Victor, who is also overseeing the project, that Virgil’s album art wasn’t the right fit.

Then the “In Da Club” rapper went to Instagram to post different variations of a potential album cover for Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon. 50 Cent has leaned towards the people for a solution, posting dozens of variations from an assortment of artists. However, it was Pop Smoke’s wish to have Virgil Abloh create the album art thus 50 has called upon Virgil to recreate his cover.

Pop’s manager, Steven Victor, addressed the situation as well stating that the team is “MAKING A CHANGE” & “POP WOULD LISTEN TO HIS FANS” among other tweets.

The album comes out July 3 and we’re a little over a day away from the release so we will have to wait and see what the “Off-White” creator Virgil delivers in honor of Pop.

Once again rest in peace Pop Smoke & be sure to listen to Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon when it releases on July 3rd. The album boasts features from Lil Baby, DaBaby, Quavo, Swae Lee, Future, 50 Cent, Roddy Ricch, Tyga, and more!
