The station will be home to the latest international genre to take the world by storm. We have been working on this partnership with Mavin Records to truly capture the essence of Afrobeats.

AFROBEATS is the soulful, ebullient contemporary sound booming out of Africa and its diaspora. It describes a fusion of sounds and styles, inspired by local and international influences, that have provided the soundtrack to the African experience – from revolution to dance. It is the ethos that binds a growing family of sub-genres, from the mellow sounds of Nigeria’s Alte scene to Amapiano’s rousing melodies and the dance-ready bangers of Zanku music. It is impossible to ignore.
Not to be confused with Fela Kuti’s Afrobeat, Afrobeats emerged in the early 2000s, inspired by the traditional genres like Fuji, Juju, Highlife and Kwaito, as well as the stylisation of hip-hop and R&B in the MTV Era. The first global moments emerged from Nigeria and Ghana, and artists like D’Banj, 2Face & VIP.
Today, the genre’s frontmen spread across the continent, much like the sound has inspired new blends in Africa and the diaspora. Since making its debut on the global stage, Afrobeats has grown into one of the most exciting sounds around. Musicians like Rema, Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Black Coffee, Sauti Sol are household names on the continent, and the rest of the world is catching on fast.
