Drake Hints on New Studio Album Certified Lover Boy

Drizzy is once again making headlines, this time thanks to a fresh trim reminiscent of a young Justin Bieber and various hints at the release of a new upcoming album.

While Drake has been teasing the release of his sixth studio album since April of 2020, the hype has been growing as we move closer to the initially promised release date.

On August 14th, right after dropping one of his summer hits, Laugh Now Cry Later, featuring Chicago rapper Lil Durk, the Canadian superstar took to his Instagram to officialize that Laugh Now Cry Later was the first single out of his next awaited studio album, Certified Lover Boy or CLB.

Just a couple months following that, OVO Sound released a teaser video on Twitter of Drake recreating his past album covers sporting his CLB haircut, with the caption:

“CERTIFIED LOVER BOY JANUARY 2021”, building up the hype.

And quite possibly the most viral out of all the CLB album teasers, Drake shared a photo of himself with the Justin Bieber CLB hair-cut last week, drawing a lot of banter but also at the same time giving fans a taste of Certified Lover Boy Drake.

Saweetie Releases New Single Best Friend Music Video featuring Doja Cat

This Thursday, January 7th, Saweetie released her new girl anthem, Best Friend featuring her bestie Doja Cat, along with a video.

In the video, we see the duo trade verses while shopping and cruising in the car, and also enjoying themselves in the pool and the strip club. While Saweetie lays down the catchy hook for the jam: “That’s my best friend, she a real bad b*tch / Drive her own car, she don’t need no Lyft”, Doja raps: “If she ride for me, she don’t need a key.”

The track is the third single to Saweetie’s long-awaited debut album Pretty B*tch Music, following the Jhene Aiko featured single Back To The Streets and the remix for Bay Area rapper’s hit song Tap In featuring Jack Harlow, DaBaby and Post Malone.

The single comes with its fair share of controversy too. On Wednesday, a little time before the release of the single, R&B duo Ceraadi accused Saweetie and Doja Cat of stealing the concept for the video from their song BFF.

Saweetie was quick to react to Ceraadi’s shade, sarcastically commenting below the post: “Omg we’ll totallyyyy add you in the credz! MY IDOLS.”

This was not the only controversy that the new single Best Friends carried with it. In December Warner Records prematurely released the song to streaming services to Saweetie’s disappointment: “I am extremely disappointed in my label WBR for prematurely releasing a single I was so excited about,” Saweetie tweeted. “I feel disrespected. I’m hands on with ALL of my creative & had such a dope rollout for ‘best friends’.”

While we do not have a set release date on Pretty B*tch Music in 2021, it definitely cannot come soon enough.

Listen to Sullivan’s song “Girl Like Me” featuring H.E.R. here.

H.E.R. announced the song’s release on Twitter, posting a video of her and Sullivan collaborating on the track with the caption “#GirlLikeMe featuring me is OUT NOW! So excited for this project. Surreal to be working with this legend!!!!!!! @jsullivanmusic and she killin the bass too!”

Heaux Tales will be released this Friday, January 8th. In addition to “Girl Like Me,” the LP will include other recently released songs by Jazmine Sullivan “Lost One” and “Pick Up Your Feelings.” It will be the first album from Sullivan since 2015 with her album Reality Show.

In a statement, Sullivan talked about her upcoming album, Heaux Tales saying, “I wrote Heaux Tales to give voice to every woman. We’re deserving of respect whether we work as a CEO of a company or if we’re strippin’. It’s about a woman deciding how she wants to present herself to the world and not being told or influenced by anyone but her gotdamn self. The truth is, women of all ages have been called a ‘heaux’ at some point in life, whether deserved or not, by some man trying to put us in our place — a place designed to keep us under control, out of the way and usually beneath them. Women are over feeling ashamed about the decisions we have made, or chose to make, in regards to our bodies.”

The Weeknd Releases Music Video for “Save Your Tears”

On Tuesday, January 5th, The Weeknd released a music video for the song “Save Your Tears.” “Save Your Tears” is off of After Hours, The Weeknd’s most recent album which was released in March of last year.

In the music video, The Weeknd shows what was going on underneath the bandages he wore during his performance at The 2020 American Music Awards. His face in the music video for “Save Your Tears” seems to be a result of poorly done facial enhancements. Throughout the music video, The Weeknd is performing at what looks to be a show at a ball. The audience members are wearing decorative masks, dressed for the occasion. They seem to have little, if any reaction to The Weeknd’s performance, even when he is spraying them with champagne.

The Weeknd announced the release of the music video on social media with a picture from the video, and the caption “SAVE YOUR TEARS OUT NOW” along with a link to the video.

The last time “Save Your Tears” was performed by The Weeknd was at the previously mentioned 2020 American Music Awards back in November. Additionally, The Weeknd is set to perform at the 2021 Super Bowl Halftime Show on February 7th.

Watch The Weeknd’s performance of “Save Your Tears/In Your Eyes” on The 2020 American Music Awards here.

Introducing Afrobeats by Mavin Powered by Dash Radio

Today we are proud to announce our first Afrobeats station, Afrobeats by Mavin.

The station will be home to the latest international genre to take the world by storm. We have been working on this partnership with Mavin Records to truly capture the essence of Afrobeats.

Afrobeats by Mavin

AFROBEATS is the soulful, ebullient contemporary sound booming out of Africa and its diaspora. It describes a fusion of sounds and styles, inspired by local and international influences, that have provided the soundtrack to the African experience – from revolution to dance. It is the ethos that binds a growing family of sub-genres, from the mellow sounds of Nigeria’s Alte scene to Amapiano’s rousing melodies and the dance-ready bangers of Zanku music. It is impossible to ignore.

Not to be confused with Fela Kuti’s Afrobeat, Afrobeats emerged in the early 2000s, inspired by the traditional genres like Fuji, Juju, Highlife and Kwaito, as well as the stylisation of hip-hop and R&B in the MTV Era. The first global moments emerged from Nigeria and Ghana, and artists like D’Banj, 2Face & VIP.

Today, the genre’s frontmen spread across the continent, much like the sound has inspired new blends in Africa and the diaspora. Since making its debut on the global stage, Afrobeats has grown into one of the most exciting sounds around. Musicians like Rema, Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Black Coffee, Sauti Sol are household names on the continent, and the rest of the world is catching on fast.

WHAT LISTENERS CAN EXPECT from “Afrobeats by MAVIN”:

The biggest artists, the best tunes, from Amapiano to Zanku.

Listeners can expect a full Afrobeats experience, from the genre’s most iconic classics to the biggest smash hits, right now and amazing content.

Fans will get to explore the sound’s journey, from the legends and songs that made moments, to its many forms, from Amapiano to Zanku.

Because everyone deserves to enjoy Afrobeats in all its different expressions, we’ll curate bangers for every mood. And as new Afrobeats’ bangers smash the global stage, we’ll put you on to what’s next: tomorrow’s biggest hits before anyone else.

On their shows, our curators will keep listeners plugged into the scene, with the latest updates and interviews with the biggest stars.

MAVIN RECORDS is Africa’s leading record label. Founded in Lagos by legendary producer, Don Jazzy, the label has produced some of the most iconic artists and songs of the last decade.

The label is regarded as an African music institution for developing musical talent across genres and generations.

Its roster spans afrobeats, alternative pop/rock, hip-hop, and more; with artists including Dr. Sid, Korede Bello, Johnny Drille, Di’Ja, D’Prince, DNA, Ladipoe, Rema, Crayon and DJ Big N. In recent times, the labels’ success is evidenced through Rema & Crayon – who have topped Ones To Watch lists since their debut barely a year ago, Ladipoe – a rapper who’s defied tradition to top the charts in multiple African countries, and Johnny Drille – an alternative music phenom who commands one of the most loyal fanbases on the continent.

Eminem Surprises Fans With New Album; “Music To Get Murdered By – Side B”

In the past couple of years, Eminem has dropped so many surprise albums that it is no longer a surprise to wake up to a new Em album.

Last night, December 17th, Marshall dropped the follow up to his most recent surprise-dropped album; “Music To Get Murdered By”. The Side B album includes collaborators with Eminem’s long-time partner-in-crime Dr. Dre (rapping on “Guns Blazing” and co-producing “Discombobulated”), Ty Dolla $ign, DJ Premier and Skylar Grey, whom Em and Dre worked together with on multiple occasions, including the well-known hit “I Need A Doctor.”

“Side B” arrives 11 months after Eminem surprise-released “Music to Be Murdered By” (featuring guest spots from Juice WRLD, Ed Sheeran, Young M.A, Anderson .Paak and production from Dr. Dre.), which followed 2018’s “Kamikaze.”

Having also done a surprise performance in the Academy Awards back in February, 17 years following his win for the Best Song Oscar for “Lose Yourself”, the “Rap God” popped back onto the scene a couple of weeks ago with a cameo in an SNL sketch spoofing his 2000 hit track “Stan”, which featured a star turn from SNL comic Pete Davidson.

Speaking to Variety following his Oscars appearance a day after he performed, Eminem did not give any hints of a plan for an “MTBMB” part two:

“I don’t really have anything coming up next, to be honest, just whatever videos come along … We don’t have anything written in stone just yet.”

The 16 track album features 13 full songs and 3 skits, including powerful features from the aforementioned artists.

Cardi B Announces New Series “Cardi Tries __”

Cardi B announced this Thursday morning that she will be starring in her own Facebook Messenger series; “Cardi Tries __”.

The “WAP” singer shared the hilarious trailer this morning, December 17th, in which she previewed the different kinds of adventures she will embark upon and interesting situations she will find herself in.

From explaining to her ballet teacher (who also happens to be Grey’s Anatomy star Debbie Allen),  “I used to be a stripper,” to freaking out about learning to do a 360 burnout in a stunt car, and admitting that her lack of athleticism explains why she can’t bounce a basketball, Cardi is here for our entertainment in the teaser. Among the things she plans to try this season are making sushi, weaving wigs, playing video games, ranching, and teaching kindergarten.

Cardi has no problems topping charts or trending on social media whenever she wants to, but it will be definitely entertaining to see her talents in the race-track and the ballet studio.

The singer recently made headlines again with her incredibly lavish gift to her husband, Migos’ Offset, for his birthday on Monday, December 14th.

The collaboration with Jesse Collins Entertainment will post new episodes every Thursday through Feb. 4, with guest stars including Fast & Furious star Michelle Rodriguez, aforementioned actress and choreographer Allen, NBA baller Damian Lillard, and country singer Mickey Guyton. The show will also be viewable on video calls via Messenger, Instagram, and Messenger Rooms through Watch Together, according to a report by Deadline.

Cardi’s fans were quick to jump on the news of the upcoming series. Check out some hilarious fan reactions and Cardi’s equally hilarious responses below:

Travis Scott Launches New Hard Seltzer Brand “Cacti”

2020 has been the year of top-tier brand collaborations for Travis Scott, with the brand new announcement of a new hard-seltzer brand in partnership with Anheuser-Busch making waves.

Cactus Jack did not treat his fans to a new album in 2020, albeit topping charts with his hit single Franchise. However, the Houston native has been securing bags with various partnerships, namely with PlayStation and McDonald’s. Scott reportedly earned at least $5 million from the endorsement part of the deal with McDonald’s, with another estimated $15 million made through collaborative merchandise sales.

Not to mention the rapper also got a meal with his name.

The venture with Anheuser-Busch, named Cacti, sees La Flame founding his own brand of agave spiked seltzer inspired by his love of tequila.

“CACTI is something I’m really proud of and have put a ton of work into,”  Scott said in a press release.

“Me and the team really went in, not only on getting the flavor right, but on thousands of creative photos on everything from the actual beverage, to the can concept, to the packaging and how it is presented to the world. We always try to convey a feeling in our products. I’m a big fan of tequila so I came at it from that angle, too. I’m really excited to put this out in 2021 and see other people be able to enjoy it.”

On an Instagram post this week, Scott said he “..can’t wait to take this journey with the gang.”

Cacti will start appearing on store shelves in Spring 2021. The ABV is 7 percent, with the initial launch including three flavors: lime, pineapple, and strawberry.
