New Music Friday: Post Malone, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Julien Baker, and NOFX

Post Malone released a cover of Hootie and the Blowfish’s 1995 hit song “Only Wanna Be With You” yesterday. The cover was for his partnership with Pokèmon for their 25th anniversary. Post Malone will also be performing a virtual concert for Pokèmon Day. The iconic rapper kept the cover relatively the same in style as the original but did tweak the lyrics a bit. 

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard release their album L.W., today. The album is to be both a standalone record, and also a companion to the Australian psych-rock band’s recent album release K.G. Last week, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard released the song “Pleura,” which will be included on the new album. The music video for “Pleura” has a unique story, as it was filmed, edited, and uploaded, all in one day. 

Hip-hop vet Curren$y dropped his latest project Collection Agency today featuring 10 new songs with a guest feature from Larry June. Bryson Tiller dropped the deluxe edition to Anniversary including 3 new songs and a Big Sean feature. Drakeo The Ruler released his highly anticipated album The Truth Hurts including his single “Talk To Me” with Drake. 

Julien Baker releases her new album, Little Oblivions today. The 25-year-old artist brings in a full, robust band with this album, which is expanded from her usually raw, and few instrument music. Though, the always emotional, and heart wrenching feelings and sounds stays true throughout this album. Themes of sobriety, romance, and wellness can be found on Little Oblivions. Previously released tracks, “Hardline,” “Faith Healer,” and “Favor” will be included on the album.

Today, NOFX released their fourteenth album Single Album. The punk rock band had originally wanted the album to be a double album. Lead singer Fat Mike talked about this saying “I wanted to make a perfect double album, and I didn’t accomplish that. So I decided to just make a single album, hence the title.” Single Album is darker than the band’s previous ones but is still just as fun. The track “Linewlium” features Avenged Sevenfold is about retiring their 1994 hit song “Linoleum.”
